My Story

My name is Cian Paton, I turned 6 years old this summer, and I love adventure and helping people. My daddy also loves adventure, and is a nurse works with the spinally injured. Next summer he, and the Martin's Mountain team, is helping one such person attempt to climb Kilimanjaro; Martin Hibbert was sadly spinally injured at the Manchester Arena bombing, but is determined to show the world and other injured people that there is life after paralysis. I thought, that as I love the outdoors, and want to be an explorer when I'm older, I would start my adventures now, by hiking mountains! I hope to bag enough peaks to add up to 19,000 ft by the time the Martin's Mountain team head to Tanzania! My first was climbing the highest peak in Wales on 20th June, just after my birthday, with my parents. (3,560 ft) Next up was Pen-Y-Fan on 17th July, with my parents, a pal, his dad and my little brother Ronan too! (2906 ft) We live on Salisbury plain so there aren't many peaks near by, but on 6th November we bagged the highest point in Wiltshire, Milk Hill. (896 ft) Watch this space over the next few months to see me rack up the altitude! More details and photos of each climb follow in the activity posts below. We all have mountains to climb every day, and if you'd like to show your appreciation to those who's mountains may be a little bigger, please consider donating here. Any donations you might want to give to spur me on, will go to the Spinal Injuries Association in honour of Martin's Mountain and are very gratefully received. Thank you, Cian Paton A bit about Martin's Mountain: On 22nd May 2017, Martin Hibbert's life changed forever. Martin was the closest survivor of the Manchester Arena bombing which tragically took the lives of 22 people. A bolt went straight through him, severing his spinal cord, leaving him paralysed below the waist. Martin is taking on the incredible challenge of raising £1million for Spinal Injuries Association, the organisation that have supported him in his recovery and gave him the hope, confidence and practical skills to start again. Martin and his team are climbing Kilimanjaro in June of 2022!
